Immigrant support in our own words
Hear our origin story from two founders of Pacific County Immigrant Support in this interview presented by Coast Community Radio host Joan Herman. Stephanie Serrano and Jan Davis discuss the events that shaped our founding as a 501(c)3, the back stories behind the the ICE raids on our undocumented immigrant community, and our need for ongoing support for our disappearing immigrant neighbors, co-workers, classmates and friends.
PCIS is hands-on. We are on the ground, supporting families during long days visiting the Tacoma Detention Center. We rise at 4:00 AM to arrive on time for detention hearings, and we often stay with families all day during the arduous, confusing process. We help with whatever advocacy and assistance we can provide. We may be translating, speaking with legal advisers, and making sure families are nurtured – physically and emotionally. PCIS gives money to the commissary so detained individuals can access better meals than are routinely provided.
