Martin and Gloria - 20 years in the cannery - gone in a moment
20 years of work in a Pacific County cannery was an achievement of pride for Martin and Gloria, an area senior couple. As they headed for work at dawn, they were followed by ICE. Martin has never broken any laws, and he knew he was obeying traffic laws as he drove. Nonetheless he was pulled over.
The ICE agents took Martin with them and left Gloria by the side of the road. Gloria speaks no English and didn’t know what just happened, but she knew about Pacific County Immigrant Support and reached out.
PCIS was able to provide Martin with funds for his commissary account at the Tacoma Northwest Detention Center, where detainees are fed a subsistence diet. We also helped with bond counsel and attorney fees.
